The Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project "Up with Hope, Down with Dope" was held in Budapest, Hungary, between 24–30 December 2023, coordinated by FACTOR Community Health and Sport Association.

The learning programme encouraged participants to examine addiction from a broader perspective by focusing on protective factors that help young people make positive life choices. Through interactive workshops and group discussions, participants explored how self-confidence, supportive friendships, family relationships, and meaningful hobbies can reduce the risk of substance abuse. Sharing experiences from different countries helped participants compare prevention practices and discover new approaches that can be adapted in their local communities.

Collaborative activities challenged international teams to identify both the causes of addiction and practical ways to promote healthier lifestyles among young people. By working together on case studies and problem-solving exercises, participants strengthened their critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills. These sessions demonstrated that addiction prevention requires cooperation between individuals, families, schools, youth organisations, and local communities.

Creativity also played an important role throughout the programme. Participants developed awareness messages, visual campaign ideas, and educational materials designed to inspire young people to choose healthy and active lifestyles instead of harmful habits. Presenting these ideas to other international teams encouraged constructive feedback, intercultural learning, and greater confidence in public speaking while highlighting the importance of peer education in raising awareness.

Reflection activities allowed participants to evaluate what they had learned and consider how the knowledge gained could be transferred into future youth work and local initiatives. The combination of practical workshops, collaborative learning, and intercultural dialogue reinforced the message that informed decisions, mutual support, and active community engagement are essential tools in preventing addiction and promoting long-term well-being.
