HARA Health and Sports Association was proud to participate in the Erasmus Plus project “Art is a Scream of Freedom!” held in Budapest from April 29 to May 5, 2025. Our delegation from Latvia included 8 participants, all youth workers eager to explore new ways to support mental health and prevent depression through hobbies and artistic activities.
From a Latvian perspective, mental health and depression are increasingly important topics. This project offered our youth workers not only the opportunity to understand the causes and effects of depression but also to learn creative methods for addressing it. Engaging in hobbies and art-based activities allowed our participants to discover new skills, build self-confidence, and increase awareness about mental health in their communities.
Working alongside participants from Spain, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Turkey provided a unique chance for cultural exchange and learning. Activities such as sociodrama, role-playing, and hobby workshops helped participants develop empathy, emotional awareness, and practical strategies for combating depression. Brainstorming sessions encouraged both individual and societal solutions, emphasizing the importance of spreading awareness at local and international levels.
As a partner from Latvia, HARA Health and Sports Association contributed to the project by sharing our experience and supporting cross-cultural collaboration. Our participants plan to bring the knowledge and practices learned in Budapest back to their communities in Latvia, organizing workshops and initiatives to increase mental health awareness.
Overall, “Art is a Scream of Freedom!” provided valuable insights and experiences for Latvian youth workers. The project reinforced the role of art and hobbies in promoting mental well-being, strengthened international cooperation, and laid the foundation for sustainable mental health initiatives in our communities. The lessons learned will continue to guide our work in supporting young people and youth workers facing mental health challenges.
